We were delighted to welcome the Queens Household Cavalry to Island Riding Centre for weekend of 29th June to perform at the Royal IW County Show. In what was their first ever visit to the Island the Cavalry arrived in the largest horse trailer we have ever seen with 28 horses and 36 men including riders, grooms and musicians. With two giant drum horses as part of the entourage we were very grateful to M and J Animal Housing for building two bespoke stables to house them and for our regular liveries who gave up their stables for the night.

With sweltering heat they were pleased to be able to ‘warm up’ and practice in our indoor arena before being lead for a leisurely walk around our on site hacking track.

Staying in our Gallops holiday accommodation for the Saturday evening the men relaxed with an informal BBQ in a lovely marquee provided by Coast and Country, served up by HTP’s resident chef with excellent support from Sallyanne Farley and her willing apprentices as well as Jan Brookes from Isle Access.

The show itself was a huge success with 1000’s of spectators turning out to see the performances and along with the rest of the Island we hope to welcome them back to the Island some time in the future.
